July 4th, 2011 - Mojito Mint

I love mojitos. I love the taste of rum, mint and lime blended together over crushed ice. In the past, my wife and I have experimented with making them at home. We ha??ve never made it taste quite right and recently I found out one reason. We had made our mojitos with spearmint. That’??s the most common type of mint found at the farmers market. Recently a friend of mine who travels to Puerto Rico quite often told me that I needed a special mojito mint. I thought she was kidding but out of curiosity I poked around on Google. Well … she was right. I found a place in Florida that shipped me the exact mint used in Cuba for making authentic mojitos. I am going to enjoy my summer!

June 26th, 2011 - Coleus

I bought a new grill today, a Weber Spirit E210. The previous grill, a Weber Baby-Q, has been with us for a few years. I think we bought it in 2002. It served us well despite its small size. We did not and do not need anything larger. It’s just the four of us and my wife is a vegetarian. So I really just wanted something basic that I could use to make burgers and hot dogs and the occasional rib-eye steak.

This morning, I took this photo of the leaves of one of my coleus plants. I imported the photo into Adobe Lightroom 3 and pushed the clarity, sharpening and noise reduction settings to their greatest values. Why? Because I could. What do you think of the result?
