Movement.

The fireworks started around 10PM. Thousands of people gathered in the Queen Victoria Park for the July 1st, Canada Day, fireworks.

This photograph was captured on a recent family trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario. MY wife and I had always wanted to vacation with her extended family, but the timing never worked. Bhavana's brother-in-law persevered and took care of most (all?) of the logistics. We chose the long "freedom" vacation week arriving in Niagara on July 1st, which also happens to be Canada Day. The park area, Queen Victoria Park, overlooking the falls was quite crowded given the holiday weekend, but we did manage to squeeze in a few family photos before dinner and then headed outside to find a spot on the grass. The fireworks started around 10 PM. Thousands of people gathered in Queen Victoria Park for the July 1st, Canada Day, fireworks. Families and friends spread out across the lawns. I wanted to show the peaceful yet dynamic nature of the experience, so I chose my aperture and went for a four-second exposure.

2012 Montgomery Township United States Independence Day Fireworks

These were taken at the High School in Montgomery Township, NJ. We've attended the Montgomery Township 4th of July fireworks for about 10 years. We've been doing it since the kids were in kindergarten (and before I knew how to use a DSLR). Initially, the fireworks were at the Orchard Hill Elementary School due to a worsening economy the township government decided that taxpayer money should be spent on school and not entertainment and cut the firework budget. The local business community and residents came together and formed a firework committee. The entire affair is now 100% community supported.

The firework event is often well attended and is funded independently of the township.

Summer is time for fireworks. We waited for the sun to go down behind the Montgomery High School so that we could celebrate the birthday of our country,
