52 Week Smartphone Challenge: Week 14: Center Frame

While TiongHan captured a photograph that evokes loneliness, for the weekly challenge, Amy Moranto captures a near-empty landscape. I opted to use a square format for the image and created a minimalist image. The side of the barn is painted red but I think converting to black and white forces the user to focus on the white square and the bench.

I took this photo while on a solo hike in the Watershed Preserve. It was quiet. So quiet I could only hear the wind in the trees. I was alone in my thoughts. When I saw the empty bench, heard the wind in the trees, the loneliness could be felt.

The Only D800 in the Hameau brings a lonely sad moment front and centre.

What do you think?

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: Week 13: New Beginnings

As you can tell if you have read the other post on my blog this week, I have been venturing out to the nearby nature trails in search of early spring wildflowers. The featured image is of Sanguinaria canadensis, commonly known as bloodroot.. The little flowers are the first signs to me that nature had entered a period of new growth after the cold, dreary months have passed. Seeing these wildflowers whose blooms last for a relatively short time give me a sense of normalcy to the health danger we now all face.

I used the rear 6mm f/2 "telephoto" lens which has an approximate 35mm equivalent of a 51mm lens. It's great for portraits but can also be used to "zoom" in on small subjects.

Like most of my iPhone images, this one was capture in Adobe Lightroom Mobile. I applied my "iPhone Filmic" preset in Adobe Lightroom on my macOS. Amy Maranto has given a humorous response to the challenge with an unusual portrait. TiongHan give me a lot to think about in his response to the challenge. He learns a lot about patience and restraint and "the Japanese way". The Only D800 in the Hameau shows us the new growth of the bay leaf plant, an essential ingredient in cooking and cocktails.

52 Week Smartphone Challenge: Week 12: Trash?

I had to look this up. I always thought these little spike balls had no practical value.

These are sweetgum fruit. Inside each capsule are one or two small, winged infertile seeds, which are a naturally occurring source of shikimic acid, one of the main ingredients in the manufacture of Tamiflu.

My daughter made some art from the little spiked balls.

Thief Images Photography asks us to find the story in her image. I see a pet bowl, so perhaps there is at least one story around a dog or a cat. Thunberg and Harvey? I don't know. Too many things here that I don't know much about to find the stories.

The Only D800 in the Hameau shows us the inside of a container at a recycling center. I know that I put way too many boxes into recycling from Amazon.com.
