Notes on Apple Education Event

Apple held a special event this morning in Chicago. Internet pundits and analyst are writing in with their thoughts on what was announced and what this might mean for users. I have my thoughts to which I will share here. I'm not a pundit or analyst but I don't think my opions are any less relevant. I don't have access to special insider information. I don't the analyst have access to the same information I do; Apple press releases and articles published around the web. Maybe some have insider information. Maybe they were invited to special, special meetings and so have learned things I don't know. But I don't know that. In any case, here's what my informed opinion on what was revealed at that event.

I agree with David Sparks and Stephen Hackett that the new iPad is expensive in comparison to a Chromebook. The Chromebook comes with a keyboard. The iPad requires the additional cost of a keybaord. I also expect that repairing the iPad may be more expensive. iPad screen repair is expensive and I think Chromebooks are more damage resistant.

Without a keyboard, using iWork on the iPad is less productive. But even with a keyboard, iWork collaboration feature are weak compared to Google Docs.

Did I miss something or were most of the students wearing private school uniforms?
