Opportunity and preparedness

The planet Hoth must have sent a terraforming device to New Jersey last night. I'm not a big fan of snow, so I intended to go outside (except later to clear the driveway). Taking a photo of the bird feeder hanging above the deck in the backyard seemed a great idea.

I read somewhere that keeping a feeder during the winter helps the smaller birds. Hopefully, they will feed here in winter, remember, and return in the spring.

As I fired off a shot or two, I noticed a bird sitting on the branch just above the bird feeder. Opportunity and preparedness?

Having a cold while living with diabetes

It's my second day at home sick. Being sick with diabetes is a bit more challenging for me. Being sick puts my body under stress. To deal with this stress, my body releases hormones that help it fight off the illness. But these hormones raise blood glucose levels and interfere with the blood glucose-lowering effects of insulin. As a result, when I'm sick, it is harder to keep my blood glucose in my target range -- between 70 and 140. I'm looking forward to getting better.

Burning House

iPad, iPhone, Wallet

If your house was burning, what would you take with you? It's a conflict between what's practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question.Burning House Project

The image above was my entry for the Burning House Project. I thought about what I would submit as my entry. If my house was on fire the first thing I would do is secure my family. I would get my wife, my son and my daughter. That's it. I wouldn't re-enter the house for anything else. But then my thoughts drifted to more practical things and I realized the question is "what would you take with you?", not "who".

Truth be told, I don't really need these devices, credit cards or ID. We live a mostly digital life. Our family photos, videos, contacts, etc. are all backed up and store inline. All I really need to restore our life is access to a computer. But having these things -- drivers license, health insurance card, credit cards -- makes life a lot simpler.
