Woobies

The next time you’re being Dad, talking with or watching or playing with your kids, and you see those elements playing out with them, think to yourself about how you can help each other be safe and comfortable. Instead of throwing out your old sweatshirt, or disposing of the Woobie too soon (we all know that eventually they might have to go), maybe revel in the similarities between you and your child.

Then throw on your favorite sweatshirt, get under their favorite Woobie, and spend some quality time getting to know each other. The safety then lies with your relationship, not the ‘things.’ And the world will be a much better place when we all feel safe with the people around us rather than the things around us.[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"][Ryan Sanders on fatherhood.org](http://blog.fatherhood.org/bid/177649/On-Safety-and-Similarities-with-Our-Kids)

My son has a woobie. It's the little blue blanket that we received as a gift at his baby shower. He sleeps with it on his head each night.

My daughter, her woobie is a blue swaddling blanket we used to bring her home from the hospital. She took it with her everywhere. Until it started falling apart. She hates it when we call it “rags”, but that's all that's left of her blankie.

I didn't have a woobie growing up. I didn't have a favorite blanket ( it's warm in the Caribbean ) or stuffed animal. But I probably have some adult woobies. Bhavna thinks my woobie is my Sony Dream Machine alarm clock. I bought it when I started college back in 1986. That was over 26 years ago. That alarm clock has reliably woken me up for classes, job interviews and work each day since I bought it. I've had many reasons to replace it. It doesn't have a battery so loses it's settings when the power goes out. It doesn't have an iPhone or iPod dock.

I recently received a new dream machine -- a gift for 10 years of service with my former employer. That new dream machine has an iPhone dock and battery backup. Yet, it remains unused.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
