Where is Paradise?

Study Abroad (The Daily Post)

If you were asked to spend a year living in a different location, where would you choose and why?

I didn't have to think for more than a few seconds. I already knew my answer. This topic is something I often discuss with my wife. We may not agree on the specifics but we both agree on the what we want.

I want to live somewhere where the temperatures float between 24°C (~ 75°F) and 30°C (~80°F) every day with humidity less than 80%. All year. I hate cold. I hate winter. I consider anyone who loves winter a fucking idiot. Seriously. What fucking idiot wants to live in a place where the air is cold and damp and the sun shines maybe once a month? What fucking idiot wants to deal with Vitamin D deficiency? Who wants to shovel snow and scrape ice and deal with sleet covered sidewalks? Why poison the environment with toxic salts to melt the snow and ice? Why!!!!!!????

I want to live somewhere where cool gentle breezes waft the lovely smells of fragrant flowers onto my patio each evening. I want to stand outside and enjoy the warm gentle drops of a tropical rain shower. The rains bring life. My garden will always be in bloom. I can grow plants that aren't just for decoration; mango, acerola cherry, and guava.

I want to be able to go to the beach and take a dip in the ocean when I want. Any day of the year. I want to hop in my car -- a convertible -- and drive out to the countryside, stop at the local saloon and have a shot of rum or a pint of ale. Again. Any day of the year.

I grew up in the Anglophone Caribbean. I was born in the country of St. Vincent & The Grenadines (SVG) but before the age of 18 I had live in the independent Caribbean states of St. Lucia, Barbados, and Antigua. These countries have similar yet distinct histories and cultures. They all speak English but with regional differences that matter. At least to the residents. Life on these islands runs at a slower pace than it does in the USA and people tend to be a friend once you get to know them.

The Grenadines is a chain of over 600 Caribbean islands e the Windward Islands.

To me this is paradise. Some people think paradise is boring. To each his own I guess.
