Cooling

It’s not the heat, it’s the electricity by Peter Rukavina https://images.ruk.ca/picture-of-peter-rukavina.jpgPeter Rukavina https://images.ruk.ca/picture-of-peter-rukavina.jpg (ruk.ca)

You could also use this time to ponder how you might cool your own spaces using less energy-intensive means (says the lucky fellow ensconced in his naturally cool church basement). Or you could, at the very least, transfer your cooling to the windy times of the day.

Interesting information. I’ve never tracked this sort of information in my area because New Jersey is both extremely hot and humid in the summer months and it seemed pointless to track something that doesn’t change.

The last few weeks we’ve had daily highs of 30ºC along with humidity of over 60% and several thunderstorms. My area has had flash flood alerts in place since Sunday.

We have fans in the house but they are not enough and I haven’t felt a breeze in several weeks. If our central air system fails I think we’d be in real trouble. I know it’s a privilege to have a home with air conditioning.

New Jersey loses people — mostly the elderly and the very young — to heat death every year.

This should have been easy. It's rained every day since Friday. Nothing but grey, grey and more grey. The theme could be "Daily Wet" and I'd have no problem finding a photo. But then again, my camera isn't weather sealed so I've mostly stayed inside.

But this weekend it's not raining. And we don't expect it to. The weekend has been warmer with only a few clouds in the sky but occasionally a sprinkle. This, this is the weather I wish was year-round. Warm, but not cold, with rain either in the early morning or at night.

After my bi-weekly haircut, I went to the local farmers’ market. It was the opening day for the market and I’m the officially unofficial photographer. Most of my market images are used to document and promote the market. I become involved with the Montgomery Friends of Open Space a few years ago. The market runs from June through October and I visit every week during the season. Last year my son, Shaan, volunteered to help with the market. He returned to help out this year as well.

In the afternoon my wife and I went to see Wonder Woman. Loved it! She’s not the lame Linda Carter television Wonder Woman that my wife watched in the 1970s. This was an interpretation of the goddess from the comic books and graphic novel. This is the Wonder Woman that Superman (my favourite comic book character) would eventually marry (after the death of Lois Lane).

After the movie, we accepted an invitation for dinner from my sister-in-law. Her husband was grilling chicken and lamb and our nephews were demanding our presence. After dinner we hung out and talked and laughed in the backyard around the fire pit until the wee hours of the night. The air was a little cooler and had the sweet smell of spring. But no rain.

Good weather.
