All the other MacWorld predictions are wrong.

Everyone has predictions for MacWorld 2008. The pundits are making more predictions about possible or probable Apple product announcements than actual Apple product announcement in 2007 and 2008 combined. So let me enter the fray. Here are my predictions (completely based on other predictions I have read).

Steve Jobs auf der Macworld in San Francisco.

Everyone has predictions for MacWorld 2008.  The pundits are making more predictions about possible or probable Apple product announcements than actual Apple product announcement in 2007 and 2008 combined. So let me enter the fray.  Here are my predictions (completely based on other predictions I have read).

  • Updated MacBook Pro.
    • All aluminium
    • Better battery life
  • Revamped Mac mini
    • All aluminium
    • Time Capsule form factor
    • Better graphics and updated ports

Predictions of an Apple media center ( isn't that Apple TV? ) or of a mini Mac Pro will prove to be incorrect.  There will be no new Apple Displays or iPod Nano.  Of course my predictions have a 50% margin of error.  The only thing I know for sure is that aluminium is the new white.

iPod Touch Remote Control

I don't have an Apple TV or iPhone but I discovered that I could do this from my iPod Touch to control iTunes on my G4 Mac mini (which is connected via HDMI to my HD TV). I use it to watch TV shows ( Avatar: The Last Airbender ) from my couch.

Any time you need to type on Apple TV, if you have the Remote app open on your iPhone, the keyboard will appear and you can just type on your iPhone instead.

Adobe Media Player

This week the Adobe Media Player (AMP) debuted. The AMP runs on either Windows or Mac and can display video in 720p and 1080p HD resolutions as well as 240p and 480p.

In terms of functionality, AMP reminds me of the open source Miro video player. The initial AMP install includes a catalog of hit TV shows as well as items from TED. I did not spend too much time poking around but most of the feature set is focused around display/viewing online video content.
