Snowfall

Winter is tolerable when I don’t have to go outside.

Winter becomes more tolerable for me when I can avoid venturing outdoors. The comfort of staying inside, away from the biting cold and icy conditions, makes the colder months bearable. Being cocooned in the warmth of home transforms winter's harshness into a more bearable experience.

Source Farmhouse Brewery in the snow

We didn't expect the storm to move so quickly and by the time we arrived at the brewery, the snowfall was much heavier.

Yesterday before the snowstorm impacted our area, Bhavna and I drove to Colts Neck to pick up our pre-order from Source Farmhouse Brewery. They held the pre-order for a week, and I wanted to drink the beer while it was still fresh.

We didn’t expect the storm to move so quickly and by the time we arrived at the brewery, the snowfall was heavier.

On the drive home, we saw a “moving too fast” snowplough do a 180-degree spin in front of us, and one compact SUV went off the road and hit a fire hydrant.

The drive home was stressful. Good thing we have beer.

Fresh Snow

I have a complex, somewhat contradictory relationship with Winter. A part of me genuinely cherishes the serene beauty of a snow-covered landscape, the quiet hush that falls over the neighbourhood under a blanket of white, and the cosy warmth indoors.

Yet, simultaneously, there's a sense of dread for the biting cold, the endless shovelling, and the dreariness of grey skies. Winter is a season of contrasts - it's about huddling by the fire with the iPad while dreading the next venture outside. It's a time when nature's magnificence is at its peak, yet its discomforts are equally noticeable.
