biddy biddy bum

Sometimes it’s all about the gear. I wanted to spend more time listening actively to album music. I wanted to recreate those Sunday morning memories seated in the living room listening to Pink Floyd, Neil Diamond and the soundtrack to Fiddler on the Roof. These were Dad’s favourite albums. He listened to the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack so often that they became some of my favourite albums. Or maybe I enjoyed it so much because it felt good to spend time with Dad.

Dad wasn’t the hugs and “I love you” or “I’m proud of you” type of father. He was more of the aloof provider type. I think Dad realised he made mistakes. Before his health degenerated, he visited us at least once a year. He made a point to visit each of his sons and spend time with his grandchildren, with our families.

Dad passed away in 2019. He would be 76 today. I miss those moments we spent listening to records. I haven’t used my audio gear as often as I had hoped. I think tomorrow I’ll sit quietly with a cup of coffee, put my feet up, put on my headphones, hit play in iTunes, lean back and close my eyes. Dad's listening.

If I were a rich man
Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum
All day long I’d biddy biddy bum
If I were a wealthy man
I wouldn’t have to work hard
Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum
If I were a biddy biddy rich
Idle-diddle-didle-didle man
