Education at the crossroads

Education at the crossroads (Seth's Blog)

School is tests and credits and notetaking and meeting standards. Learning, on the other hand, is ‘getting it’. It’s the conceptual breakthrough that permits the student to understand it then move on to something else. Learning doesn’t care about workbooks or long checklists.

I wish I had known this earlier in my educational career.

A world without failure is a world without freedom

A world without failure is a world without freedom. A world without the possibility of sin is a world without the possibility of righteousness. A world without the possibility of crime is a world where you cannot prove you are not a criminal. A technology that can give you everything you want is a technology that can take away everything that you have. At some point, real soon now, some of us security geeks will have to say that there comes a point at which safety is not safe. ~ Dan Greer

As an information security professional I know that no network or computer system is invulnerable from attack and compromise. The threat landscape is constantly changing and the bad guys are almost always a step ahead. What can be done is that the risks can be minimized. The buzzword used in my industry is Security Risk Management.

Managing diabetes is like practicing effective risk management. To do that I need knowledge; about my body, my pancreas and and the various risks. The knowledge base is constantly changing with new research and new insights.
