Facebook’s addiction wasn’t free – DHH

( )

A part of me is sick of seeing story after story about how Facebook is evil or why the user should delete their accounts. Heck, there is an entire website dedicated to deleting Facebook. We even have some fucking idiots at the New York Times talking about regulation. Because you know, adults are too fucking lazy and stupid to read the terms of service or understand that handing over a large amount of personal data to a FREE online service doesn't have consequences. Or like those people weren't repeatedly warned.

The online media is piling in a way that makes it seem like they didn't know the whole time. But I think that online media was part of the problem. Many website publishers ran Facebook Ads and provided an easy way to create accounts and access their websites via Facebook logins. They are complicit in helping to create the addiction because they are all pimping out their customers.

Tip of the hat to Koolinus for the link to David's article.
