Café 44 is a new café on Leigh Street. The café is off the busy foot paths of Princeton so clientele is likely to be local or those in the know. The restaurant’s owner, Jennifer Jefferis of Princeton, owns Tortuga’s Mexican Village across the street.

The staff is friendly and seems interested in getting to know me. There are framed photographs from local photogs on the walls and ample seating space in the main room. Most tables seat four. For larger groups or If you just want to sit and read the side room has two sofas and a large coffee table. This is my Saturday morning before haircut routine and hopefully soon to become my early Sunday morning routine.

What’s on the menu? Everything I could want for breakfast — bagels, cream cheese, omelets, bacon, muffins, oatmeal and well … coffee. Most of the bakery items are sourced from Sweetmama’s. My son loves the cinnamon buns and the brownies and the red velvet cupcakes.

We’re headed out to Manhattan today to visit the Museum of Natural History. We’ve made several trips in the past but never quite make it past the dinosaur exhibit and the planetarium.

I themed my breakfast around our trip. I had a cup of freshly brewed Ethiopian Harrar1 from my French Press. Bhavana and the kids bought some bagels from Wegman’s during their Wednesday afternoon grocery shopping trip. I slathered some low fat Philadelphia cream cheese on both sides and inserted some Nova Lox. Coffee and a bagel. Isn’t that a New York breakfast?

  1. I get my coffee freshly ground from Rocky Hill Buy the Cup. ?

10 December, 2011 - Latte

Some Saturday's I take my kids to their Tae Kwon do lesson at the Montgomery Martial Arts Academy. While they learn the art of kicking and punching I pop across the street to Thomas Sweet for a latte. The staff know me quite well — I'm the Foursquare mayor — and sometimes we chat about our school. There is always good music playing so I often sit and enjoy free the free Wi-Fi, catching up on my news feeds while drinking my latte.

During the summer I'll have a cold latte or an espresso Coke — a shot of chilled espresso mixed with a Coca-Cola on ice.
