Rainbow Crosswalk

In the fall of 2018, the City of Asbury Park unveiled a rainbow-striped crosswalk on Asbury Avenue in front of the Empress Hotel. The crosswalk was supposed to be temporary and created by resolution to promote awareness of LGBTQ issues in Asbury Park and timed to coincide with Garden State Equality Equality Walk. It is now permanent.

The crosswalk leads to the defunct Carousel House.

I pushed the colour just a bit in Adobe Lightroom. I use the subject selection masking tool to isolate the carousel, inverted the mask, and played around with the shadow and highlight sliders in Adobe Lightroom to get the final image.

Tony’s

The Asbury Park boardwalk is lined with restaurants. Some are traditional, brick and mortar sit down and be served restaurants. Others are "walk up and order from a food truck in a shipping container" establishments. Let me explain.

In 2018 Madison Marquette, the developer for the Asbury Park boardwalk, added eight 320-square foot shipping containers on the promenade used for seasonal businesses. Other shipping containers on the boardwalk serve as public facilities, such as restrooms. Some food trucks, such as Mogo's Korean Fusion Tacos, are so widely known that they get written up in US News "30 Top Things to Do in New Jersey". I’ve eaten those tacos. They are fantastic.

But the, containerised food trucks have only existed since 2008. This is why the "Est. 1946" text inside the "Tony’s" food truck banner caught my eye. I searched around the interwebs and discovered a little bit of tri-state food history.

in 1946 Anthony Segreto, an Italian American from the Little Italy section of New York City, at the urging of his friend, a local butcher, started selling Italian Sausage and Frankfurters at "The Feast." The business was booming, and soon, Tony was selling Sausage at Italian Feasts and Fairs all over New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. After he retired, he passed the business on to his family. The third generation of Sogreto’s continues to operate this family-owned food concession business at some of New Jersey's largest outdoor special events. The Asbury Park Boardwalk food-truck container is the only fixed-location operation I could find.

Changing Seasons June 2017

As I stated in posts through the month, it rained in May. Then it rained much more in June. For most of May, I photographed wet things under the softbox of an overcast sky. For most of June, I shot whenever I could. These images are all from various trips during June. Some of them are from other posts from during the month.

Fireworks, Labmbertville
During the summer the border towns of New Hope, Pennsylvania and Lambertville, New Jersey hosts a firework display every two weeks.
Chairs, Green, Rutgers Gardens
During one rainy weekend in June, I dropped my son off to orientation at the Rutgers Honors College and then roamed the grounds of the Rutgers Gardens until he was ready. It rained the entire time.

The Montgomery Township Independence Day Fireworks at are held each year at the Montgomery High School. It's a big deal for the town drawing a few thousand people. My kids have always enjoyed playing on the lawn with their friends and then returning to sit with us right before the fireworks display starts.

The Changing Seasons Monthly Photo Challenge is a blogging challenge by photographer Max "Cardinal Guzman". Each month I will post one or more photos that I think represents the month.
