I think this is a dull, boring way to live. Those "unnecessary" decisions, the ones we just don't want to take the time to make, are the ones we will miss the most when on our deathbeds. I don't want to wear the same shirt and the same pants and eat the same breakfast and lunch and dinner each and every day. What's the point of being more productive if I just live a mundane life? Is that what some people consider a life well lived? Is life just a process of eliminating distractions so that you can focus on doing? What about being?
I think there is danger in extrapolating the needs of someone with so much at stake, with our own day to day needs.
I don't think human life is nothing but a series of constant optimizations of time. Go do something important and significant. Hug your wife and children and tell them you love them.
I will spend more time being with my family. Being with a friend who needs me to sit and listen. Being out with my friends on a photo walk enjoying their company. I will not allow my success to be defined by how much I have accomplished.
I'm tired of doing "productivity". According to Quinn Norton:
We should spend more time wasting time. We all need to be bored more. We all need to spend more time looking quizzically at birds we don’t recognize. We all need a little more time to connect the dots and see if they matter. I don’t know how much more, but sometimes you have to do things without knowing how much you need.
Agreed!!!
