OmmWriter Beta - Zen writing for the Mac

I was catching up on reading the news feeds this morning when I came across a post on the smoking apples blog about a new text editor called OmmWriter. I'm not sure why I downloaded it. Maybe because of what OmmWriter's cleanly designed web site promised.

So here I am writing this blog post in what so far, has been the most minimalist text editor I have ever used. The GNU vi has more features than OmmWriter. Once launched OmmWriter took over the entire screen presenting nothing more than a small centered input box and a minimal side menu. I had a choice of three font styles, three text sizes, and three background effects. The side menu also contained options for opening and saving .txt files.

Ommwriter is a simple text processor that firmly believes in making writing a pleasure once again, vindicating the close relationship between writer and paper. The more intimate the relation, the smoother the flow of inspiration.

I was also surprised by two unusual menu options. OmmWriter includes 7 background sounds ; electronic chimes, bells, flutes and running water sounds enveloped me as I typed out this blog post. I could see how this might be relaxing for some but I prefer to select a playlist from my iTunes library.

OmmWriter was developed by a team at Herraiz Soto & Co, a digital creative agency. Download it here.

That is it for OmmWriter. There is nothing else to tell. OmmWriter does what it promises and no more. And I am grateful for that.
