March 21, 2011 - Snip, Burn, Solder, Shred

The kids and I got a book for the three of us. I can't wait to start some of these projects and create mayhem in our home. When I was a young boy doing these sort of projects in my room meant small (and large) eruptions of chemicals, burn holes in the rug, and the smell of burning electronics in the air. I had a blast making explosive material from sugar and sulphur, cross breeding fish, and turning my Dad's perfectly functional electronics into something else. Much of what American kids are exposed to in science class is nothing more than well executed demos. No wonder kids think science is boring. I want to kindle the spark of creativity and inquisitiveness that I discovered as a young boy.
