U.S. Pipeline Disrupted by Ransomware Attack

U.S. Pipeline Disrupted by Ransomware Attack by Tara Seals

The attack took a gas compression facility offline for two days, disrupting the supply chain.

First failure, lack of network segmentation between the IT and OT networks.

The attackers were able penetrate the IT portion of the facility’s network, and then move beyond that to eventually infiltrate the control and communication assets on the operational technology (OT) side of the house.

Second failure:

The facility admitted that its disaster recovery plans only included physical emergency scenarios, not cyber-related attacks.

iPad

A mind-boggling defence indeed

I’ve said I’m done with the Mac vs iPad debate, and it’s true. I’m absolutely tired of this shit. Nothing is going anywhere, it’s a stupid kind of endless trench warfare. But Ben Brooks’ latest piece about the iPad was hard to ignore in that it’s just a disheartening read and, in a few places, a fair representation of a certain type of Reality Distortion Field at work.

I’ve been a Mac owner since 2006 and an iPad owner since the very first iPad was released in 2010. I find uses for both. The right tool for the right job.

But, I agree with the tone of Riccardo’s article. I used to love reading his post to find tips to help me get more from the iPad. But I eventually removed his website from my feed reader.

I think Ben Brooks has gone from enthusiast to fanatic regarding the iPad.

I am Okay with Ok

Okay Hand Gesture

A common hand gesture that a 4chan trolling campaign claimed in 2017 had been appropriated as a symbol meaning "white power." Used by many on the right--not just extremists--for the purpose of trolling liberals, the symbol eventually came to be used by actual white supremacists as well. Caution must be used in evaluating instances of this symbol's use.

...[usage dates] to at least as early as 17th century Great Britain, it most commonly signals understanding, consent, approval or well-being. Since the early 1800s, the gesture increasingly became associated with the word “okay” and its abbreviation “ok.” The gesture is also important in the Hindu and Buddhist worlds, as well as in yoga, where it is known as mudra or "vitarka mudra", a symbol of inner perfection. The "okay" hand gesture also forms part of the basis for a number of words or concepts in American Sign Language. It appears in many other contexts as well.

You're an idiot if you believe the fake news that the OK emoji and hand symbol is a sign of fascism and white supremacy. An utter idiot. 👌
