June 19th, 2011 - I hate it!

I hate that you think diabetes is all about sugar and if I just avoided it, everything would be fine. I hate it that you think insulin is a cure. I hate it that you think it'??s ok that I attend a late afternoon social event where the only thing available to eat is ice cream, pretzels and other carbohydrate laden foods and the only thing to drink is high-fructose corn syrup drinks or water. I hate it that you think I can "just take extra insulin"? or that you have some wonderful great idea on how to managed that neither myself nor my doctor has considered. I hate it that you think my diabetes situation is just like your uncle or aunt who eats anything they like. I hate it but really, I?'m afraid.  I'm afraid that there are way too may ignorant people like you, who just don't get it.

  1. ulcerative colitis is rough. My mother-in-law has that too. But ... she's older and stubborn and won't do what the doctors say. So she continues to suffer.

  2. No. This wasn't about you. It was about people who ask me to come with them for ice-cream or cake but won't understand why I can't just have a small piece.

  3. Hi Khurt - I understand and now feel quite badly I asked about sugar free ice cream. No - I don't think it would be a cure - just nice. I also understand because my husband has ulcerative colitis...another disease people just don't understand. Everyone thinks diet controls it - NOPE or Remacaid is a total cure - NOPE - or steroids are a good solution - NOPE. It's frustrating and I know my husband feels as if he's alone in this even though his new doc is a good one.

    1. I think the ignorance is ok. It's the "I know better" behind the ignorance that bothers me. Some people just think they know as much as (or more) about medical condition as I do.
