Isolation Photo Project, Day 81

Jim Grey wrote another blog post about another Indiana drive-in, the Tri-Way Drive-In in Shelbyville, Indiana. New Jersey has two million more residents than Indiana but exactly one drive-in; the Delsea Drive-In Theatre in Vineland about 90 minutes south. I took the kids there several years ago.

Google Maps shows eighteen drive-ins spread across Indiana. I wonder why Indiana has so many drive-in theatres?

I also noticed Jim gave distance in miles and I gave it in minutes. In densely populated states like New Jersey, physical distance is mostly meaningless metrics. What matters is how much time I spend travelling.

There are so so many late 19th Century and early 20th Century homes in this area of New Jersey. I am thinking particularly of Hopewell, a borough of Hopewell Township that is a fifteen-minute drive from my home. I never thought to photograph them. Do you think it would be weird if I walked around each day and explored a new street? I think it would make an interesting series but worry about being perceived as creepy.

I'm low on creative energy right now. A friend tried to help me, brainstorming ideas over a length MMS exchange. But I brushed off most of his suggestions as not possible. Today when I replayed our exchange in my head, I think I was resisting. But I also realise that I do not have a lot of photographic equipment. I have a body, all of which are manual except for one. I don't have a macro lens or a lens that focuses on close distances. I don't have a telephoto zoom lens for wildlife photography. Up until today, I didn't even have a flash.

Perhaps it's time to spend some money.
