I am honoured that Montgomery Township included some of my fireworks photographs in a video/photo montage of scenes from the annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks over the years. The project video, hosted on YouTube, was pulled together on very short notice by township administrator, Tamara "Tammy" Garaffa. Due to the global pandemic, the annual fireworks were not possible this year. The Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks display are funded by contributions from area corporations, small business leaders, residents, vendors fees and parking passes. The event is a real Montgomery Township community event.
I have a feeling that things are about to change in information technology, and I want to ride the next wave. A recent post in the decision-making section on Farnam Street website got me thinking about my next career move.
This wonderful demonstration of the Red Queen Effect in sports can be described as an “arms race.’” As everyone tries to get ahead, a strange equilibrium is created by the simultaneous continual improvement, and those with more limited resources must work even harder as the pack moves ahead one at a time.
In 2003 I turned from web development to web application and web server security shortly after the market for webmasters fell. Then in 2010, I swivelled from security analyst focused work and concentrated on security architecture. I feel it's time to pivot again, but this time I am less sure than I was before about what comes next.
The Farnam Street post ends with this sentence, a part of which had long been part of my email signature.
Second-Order Thinking and a little real-world experience show this to be true: Those that prosper consistently will think deeply, reevaluate, adapt, and continually evolve. That is the nature of a competitive world.
