Apple - CarPlay

CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. It also works with your car’s controls — knobs, buttons, or touchscreen. And the apps you want to use in the car have been reimagined, so you can use them while your eyes and hands stay where they belong.Apple - CarPlay

My Honda Accord (2006) is relatively but I am excited by this. Bhavna's 2001 Honday Odyssey will need to be replaced very soon so maybe she'll be the first one in the family to get CarPlay. I love Honda's and our next car will be a Honda. The dealership is just two miles away.

  1. So this is more of a smart display than an actual product in of itself? I don't like it. A car is WAY too expensive of a device to tie me down to any one particular OEM or carrier. Its like a smart tv. Way too expensive to replace every year. Leave the TV dumb and leave my car open to choice.

Perhaps. But Ford and Microsoft are already doing this and the cars are selling well. With the exception, the list of car makers is in the luxury brand segment. Mercedes, Audi, BMS, Volvo, Acura (Honda) etc.

Coincidentally Google is lobbying states to have Google Glass approved for use while driving.

Personally I won't feel tied down. I've been an Apple user for almost six years. I have bought inexpensive and expensive software for use on my iMac, iPad and iPhone. I've invested in the platform. In the same way corporations choose an OS and buy software for that OS to support running that business, I have purchased software to support my use of my computers. Switching platforms is not something that's easily or inexpensively done. From that perspective we are all tied down. Or put another way, how quickly do you think the United States could adopt the international system of units instead of plodding along on imperial units? How easily could Britain switch to driving on the right side of the road, like the rest of Europe?
