So ... if I put your work on my car and people buy my product/service because they like what they see on my car is that ok? If I make a gazillion dollars doing this is that ok? If someone who is poor slaps your work on a mug and sell them to pay for food is that ok? Trying to understand if it's the fact that someone is profiting or that they are making bank from the work that irks you.

If you put my “work” on your car, then use that for the purpose of profit, then you have taken my labour for your profit. If you want to put my work on a mug and sell for profit, then that’s also not ok. If you want to do either, then you can contact me and seek permission to do so. My Labour, My Rights.
In the second circumstance, if the theoretical “poor person” is replaced with a collective or a mutual aid organisation, then I want that collective to be free to derive use from my works. This is the same situation as a CC-BY-NC-SA.
Neither of these, however, are remotely pertinent. What the FOSS fundamentalists have created is a situation where gigantic corportations are free to expropriate the labour of the commons, and monetise that value exclusively for themselves. That situation is nonsensical, and inimical to the values which I hold and profess.
I don’t understand what “making bank” is, or why the concepts i’m espousing seem to provoke such a reaction. Perhaps if you could offer an explanation of the apparent dichotomy you describe (profiting vs. making bank) I could advance the matter towards closer understanding.
