Indie WYSIWYG: How I Fixed My Instagram Problem by Alex Kearney (kongaloosh.com)

There's a saying in the indieweb community: manual until it hurts. Don't automate what you're doing until it's so painful that you're compelled to automate. It'll take time to maintain the code that's replacing your manual--software rots.

This is a very subjective principle. What hurts one person is painless to someone else. The problem with this ideology for me: I'm lazy. If it's not easy, it's agony.

Same. Manual until it hurts meant that the the process, time and effort of posing content often took longer than the creation of the content.

How do you link to posts that have no title from your blog? Clicking on the date of any post (on the left or bottom depending on screen size) will direct you to the permalink for that post.

The problem for me is that Patrick’s post URLs now looks like this.

Have you tried a date formatted URL?

Found this via Chris Aldrich’s blog.

Is the Mac mini enough?

The best external monitors for your Thunderbolt 3 MacBook Pro by Roger Fingas

If a MacBook Pro is your primary computer, you're probably going to want a big-screen monitor for your desktop. These are some of the top-rated options compatible with Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C, in no particular order.

Assuming Apple keeps updating the Mac mini, I considered whether, in a few years, I could replace my 2013 27“ iMac with a Mac mini and a 27” Thunderbolt display. The new Mac mini may be all the machine I need for fun photo editing with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

The nagging questions are:

  • How well does the Intel Core i5 3.0GHz 6-core 8th-generation processor in the mini perform in comparison to the 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 in the iMac?
  • Where can I find comparisons of the two CPUs?
  • What is the life a computer display? What is the rate of obsolescence?
  • Is the initial (and replacement) cost of a Mac mini + 27" Thunderbolt 3 display more than the cost of a new 27" iMac?

Thoughts?
